I used to be against teaching religion in school. I used to think that it was necessary to keep church and the state separate. While I do believe that nothing should be JUSTIFIED by religion (ie. same-sex marriage, abortion, etc), I do believe that religion should be taught in schools. It just isn't right for people to have such intolerance toward one another due to religion. Islamophobia should not even exist. We should teach Christianity, Islam, Buddhism and many other major world religions in school. Maybe people would not be so intolerant and hateful towards each other.
I woke up in the middle of the night last night
and my first reaction was to check the news. The war on terror is not over. We probably made it worse.

First Post
It's a rainy 50 degrees in Buffalo, NY. I am trying to give up the internet. Deactivated facebook. Logged out of tumblr and twitter. It's been a couple of days. I am realizing that I can't get on the internet without wanting to update/vent, so here I am.
As you all know, (if you don't know, you are seriously living in a cave) it was just announced last night that Osama bin Laden is dead. Yay? What? YAY?! Um, hello guys, this is a human being's life! I remember when I was young, looking at pictures from wartime and post "victories." Okay, you can start to see what side of the fence I'm on. They disturbed me when I was younger and they disturb me now. Of course, during the Revolutionary War and the Civil War, we have paintings to go off of, but it is still disturbing to me, as is this picture:

Let's look at the crowd. Mostly white. Should that come as a surprise in a racist, xenophobic, Islamophobic nation? I think not. Most of these people appear to be in the college age. They were young when the twin towers were attacked (as was I). I was too young (and against) to understand the reason why we were going to Iraq and Afghanistan. Are they educated about the war on terrorism? Probably not. I guess I missed the reason why we are celebrating this man's death. Yes, he did some horrible things. A lot of people have done horrible things. It doesn't mean death is okay or even a celebration. This picture looks like a typical college party. What is okay about this?
In a world of injustice where capitalism fuels extreme gaps between the wealthy and the poor, it shouldn't be a surprise that people are going to be pissed about it and try to do something about it. "Wake up, America."
